The Apollo pepper's heat has been reported to measure up to 3.18 million Scoville heat units (SHU), the same as one of its parent plants: Pepper X. The other parent plant is the Carolina Reaper. The Carolina Reaper is, in comparison, a relatively sedate 1.8 million SHU. But that's, of course, still incredibly spicy.
The Reaper has been measured at more than two million Scoville heat units, the accepted scale for how hot peppers are. Measurements vary, but a really hot habanero might come in at 500,000
Scoville scale: 1,641,183 SHU: The Carolina Reaper chili pepper is a cultivar of the Capsicum chinense plant. Developed by American breeder Ed Currie, the pepper is red and gnarled, with a bumpy texture and small pointed tail.
It has no known SHU value but, on a scale of naught to the hottest Reaper sauce that I've had, I'd say it's a 4.5/10. Hotter than most supermarket sauces but not on par with even, say, the best of Ghost stuff. If I had to estimate an SHU, I'd say about 75K but that's just a rough estimate.
Encona Carolina Reaper hot sauce This limited-edition sauce yanks up the Scoville scale from their standard offerings,
Ghost peppers range in heat from 855,000 - 1,041,427 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), so the hottest Carolina Reaper is more than twice as hot. Appearance and Description. The Carolina Reaper is a smaller pod, ranging from 1 to 2 inches wide (2.5 - 5 cm) and 2 to 3 inches (5 - 7.6 cm) long. The pods mature to a vibrant red color.
